Something old, something new. Journeying with Plin to embrace the mark of two impressions.
San Francisco will forever be treasured as a salient backdrop to my formative years. Excursions to my favorite dress boutique, mesmeric walks through the Palace of the Fine Arts, and 5 hour meals with my best friends - it's not unexpected that whenever I visit the city, I drop by the old stomping grounds, brimming with memories that an entire weekend couldn't accommodate. It's always heartbreaking to see some of my favorite establishments move on, but it's more inspiring to see the city grow and to capture the opportunity for new memories in lovely San Francisco.
While Kyle and I ventured to do some of my veteran day-in-the-city activities, we dedicated a new food adventure to the itinerary. There's always something fresh on the chef scene, and chef Alexander Alioto's stylish restaurant, Plin, is the hottest addition to the San Francisco food-scape. Plin's modern accent on Italian comfort food fosters a chic, upscale sanctuary in the Mission for those craving homemade pastas and exquisite burrata, without the feisty parking and red-and-white tablecloths of North Beach (the Little Italy of SF). The menu is a minimalist's dream - a highly curated selection of small plates, simple in its ingredients yet worldly in its variation in taste from Italian classics to contemporaries.
Standout dishes include the heirloom tomato and burrata, a preparation starting with soaking the heirloom tomato in fresh walnut oil and seasoning overnight that deeply enhances the refreshing flavor of such a traditional and popular recipe. The ravioli al uovo decadently oozes with warm yellow yolk onto a flavor explosion of spinach, ricotta, brown butter, and truffle oil - it's so good you can't forget to ask for bread to soak up every last drop. Honorable mentions go to the seared Hokkaido scallops and squid ink agnolotti, teeming with sweet savor, and the soft gnocchi covered with a hearty meat ragu.
Expect Plin's full family affair (with Alioto's mother taking care of interior design and Alioto's father, a Master Sommelier, pairing the best wines to go with your meal) to extend to your dinner table - bring your friends, your family, and your loved ones and be prepared to experience a warm, delicious meal complete with memorable laughs and love.
Yum!! Love the photos.
